Bite2Go

You Can Help Alleviate Childhood Hunger

Help local kids get the daily nutrition they need to be successful in school through the Bite2Go program.

Bite2Go is a program of the Second Harvest food distribution center in partnership with the At The Core team that provides weekend food support to children experiencing hunger. For many kids, the only consistent meals they get are at school. Many families are "food insecure," meaning they must live on a tight budget and can't afford much food. The Bite2Go program sends kids home with food for the weekend.

Bite2Go kits include a good mix of healthy, kid-friendly, easy-to-open, nonperishable food items to cover meals and three snacks over the weekend. The shelf-stable milk, juice, cereal, entrees, and snacks are safe for children to handle on their own because they don't require any cooking or other preparation. At the end of each school week, staff put the packages of food discreetly in the backpacks of students in need.

At The Core began the Bite2Go program in 2009 as a way of empowering local churches, businesses, and organizations to successfully adopt schools in their community for the purpose of helping the 1-in-5 children who go hungry every day. At The Core works with Second Harvest to utilize foods donated by stores, farmers, and food drives, and provides technical, organizational and logistical guidance to community and school organizations desiring to implement the Bite2Go program.
